National Nutrition Week 2025 – Annapoorna Trust’s Commitment towards Nutrition to children

National Nutrition Week is an annual event observed in India from September 1st to 7th, dedicated to educating the public about the importance of nutrition and healthy eating habits. Initiated in 1982 by the Food and Nutrition Board of the Ministry of Women & Child Development, its primary goal is to prevent malnutrition and promote a balanced diet across all ages. This year’s theme focuses on promoting accessible and affordable nutrition awareness in India through community participation.
As the country observes National Nutrition Week 2025, the Annapoorna Morning Nutrition Program stands out as a transformative initiative addressing child hunger and malnutrition. Spearheaded by the Sri Sathya Sai Annapoorna Trust, this program has become the world’s largest free morning nutrition initiative, serving over 10 million children daily across 25 states and 4 Union Territories.
The program’s core mission— “Let no child go to school hungry ever”—is realized through the provision of nutritious morning meals in government schools, especially in rural and underserved regions. These meals include the scientifically developed “SaiSure” health mix (Ragi millet mix and Choco malt) with milk. This daily nourishment not only combats hidden hunger but also enhances children’s physical health, cognitive development, and academic performance.
The ripple effects of this initiative are profound. Teachers report improved classroom engagement and attentiveness, while schools witness increased enrolment, punctuality, and attendance. For many families, the assurance of a nutritious breakfast acts as a compelling incentive to send children to school, thereby breaking cycles of poverty and illiteracy.
Voices from the ground
A teacher from a government school in Karnataka shared, “Earlier, many children came to school tired and hungry. Now, they are alert and eager to learn. The morning meal has made a huge difference.”
A student from Telangana expressed, “I used to feel weak and sleepy in class. After we started getting breakfast, I feel strong and can concentrate better.”
Parents, too, have noticed the change. One mother said, “We are daily wage workers. Knowing our child gets a healthy meal at school gives us peace of mind and motivates us to send her regularly.”
These testimonials reflect the program’s ripple effect—nourishing not just bodies but minds and communities!!
Annapoorna salutes the over 600 volunteers, government bodies, and corporate CSR partners, who have supported this initiative, thus, showcasing a collaborative model of compassion and impact.
In the spirit of National Nutrition Week’s theme for 2025 — “Eat Right for a Better Life”—the Annapoorna Morning Nutrition Program exemplifies how targeted nutrition can uplift an entire generation, ensuring that every child begins their day with dignity, health, and hope.
