Quantum Leap in Morning Nutrition Reach in Assam
In a landmark step towards child nutrition and education, the Morning Nutrition Programme in Assam has witnessed a quantum leap in scale and impact.
Initially launched in January 2025 for 4.25 lakh school children, the programme has now expanded to 11.75 lakh children across 16,761 schools, operating six days a week. This rapid scale-up reflects a strong commitment to ensuring that no child begins the school day hungry.
As part of the programme, children receive SaiSure Millet (Ragi) Multi-Nutrient Health Mix, blended with jaggery and served as a nutritious morning drink upon arrival at school. This intervention addresses both morning hunger and hidden hunger, supporting better health, improved concentration, and enhanced academic performance.
The initiative is supported by Samagra Shiksha Assam, the Assam Government’s flagship programme aimed at promoting equitable and inclusive education across the state—demonstrating the power of Sarkara-Samaja-Sanstha collaboration at scale.
A student shared,
“Earlier, we came to school on an empty stomach. Now, during assembly, when SaiSure health mix is served, we can focus better on our studies. It is very tasty, and we look forward to it every day.”
Teachers have also observed positive change, noting improved punctuality, higher attentiveness, and better overall well-being among students. They expressed gratitude to Sri Sathya Sai Annapoorna Trust and the Assam State Government for introducing a nutrition programme rich in essential macro and micronutrients to even the most far-reaching regions of the state.
This expansion marks a significant milestone—proving that nutrition is a powerful enabler of education and that scalable impact is possible when purpose meets partnership.
