Continued Journey of Annapoorna Trust in Tamil Nadu: Nourishing Young Lives in 2024–25

Empowering Children Through Nutrition Across Diverse Districts

The year 2024–25 marked another impactful chapter for the Sri Sathya Sai Annapoorna Trust in Tamil Nadu, as the Trust continued to deliver nutritious morning meals to thousands of schoolchildren with the steadfast support of CSR partners and philanthropic foundations.

With a vision to end classroom hunger and support holistic child development, the Morning Nutrition Program in Tamil Nadu has evolved into a multi-model operation tailored to meet the unique needs of different districts. The initiative now benefits over 4,000 children, offering them access to essential nutrition every school day.

The Morning Nutrition Program in Tamil Nadu is implemented through the following models:

  • Cooked Breakfast:
    • Districts Covered: Chennai and Tuticorin
    • In Chennai, cooked breakfast is prepared at a state-of-the-art centralised kitchen in partnership with Danirasa Foundation. Based in Chennai, Danirasa Foundation is dedicated to improving the living conditions of underprivileged communities through food distribution, medical camps, and other community services.
    • The initiative currently serves 1,890 students across urban and peri-urban areas including Pallavaram, Perungudi, Meenambakkam, Ambattur, Thirunindravur, Pattabiram, and Redhills, ensuring children begin their day with a hot, nutritious meal delivered right to their school doorstep.

    • This scientifically designed health supplement addresses micro and macronutrient deficiencies in growing children.
    • The program is supported by Sodexo, a global leader in food services and facilities management. Sodexo’s strong focus on nutrition and well-being aligns perfectly with Annapoorna Trust’s mission. In collaboration, they are serving government school children in Hosur (Krishnagiri) and Tenkasi, ensuring children receive the vital nutrition needed to grow, learn, and thrive.

Annapoorna Trust’s continued success in Tamil Nadu is made possible by synergistic partnerships:

  • Danirasa Foundation, whose operational excellence and community commitment have enabled seamless implementation of cooked meal services.
  • Sodexo, whose global expertise in nutrition has strengthened the distribution and consistency of SaiSure nutrition delivery.
  • Government departments and educational institutions, whose support and collaboration have enabled scale and sustainability.

The Trust remains deeply committed to its mission of ensuring “No child goes to school hungry.” These nutrition initiatives not only address immediate hunger but also play a crucial role in improving school attendance, cognitive development, and overall health of students.

As the program expands its reach, the Sri Sathya Sai Annapoorna Trust continues its relentless efforts toward creating a hunger-free and healthier Tamil Nadu, one nutritious meal—and one school—at a time.
