A Steady Step in Uttar Pradesh Toward Addressing Morning Hunger: Bhadohi

A bright winter morning on December 6th, 2024, marked a significant day for the students of P.S. Badura in Gyanpur Taluk, located in the Bhadohi district of Uttar Pradesh. Known as the carpet city of India, Bhadohi is home to South Asia’s largest hand-knotted carpet weaving industry.


The district is also home to a hardworking community, where children and their families often face economic challenges. Taking humble steps to combat hunger, especially morning hunger, among government school children in Uttar Pradesh, India’s most densely populated state where the launch of the Morning Nutrition program took place in Bhadohi.

This intervention in Bhadohi will benefit 2,000 students from 14 schools with SaiSure Fortified Ragi with Jaggery. The event was graced by Bhupender Narayana Singh, the Basic Shiksha Adhikari (BSA) of Gyanpur, Bhadohi. He applauded the district’s efforts to address the nutritional needs of children and expressed hope that this initiative would expand to other schools in areas where many families rely on the weaving industry for their livelihood.

Vishal Singh, the District Magistrate of Bhadohi, had played a crucial role in securing permissions and enabling the event. The children were all smiles as they received their servings of SaiSure, a nutritious health mix.


Bhadohi joined a growing list of districts in Uttar Pradesh, including Lucknow, Ayodhya, Siddharth Nagar, Ghaziabad, Bijnor, Noida, and Varanasi, where the SaiSure program is already in operation. With this milestone, the number of children served by the initiative has crossed an impressive 10,000, showcasing its growing impact.
