Annapoorna Breakfast Programme Launch in Kalaburagi, 28th Sep 2019
10,000 School Children in Kalaburagi to benefit from the Annapoorna breakfast programme launch
Minister for Primary and Secondary Education S. Suresh Kumar on Saturday launched the ‘Annapoorna Belagina Upahara’, a scheme to provide breakfast to children in government schools in Kalaburagi district. This scheme is being introduced by Sri Sathya Sai Annapoorna Trust in Joint Collaboration with Adamya Chetana.
As many as 10,000 children studying in 75 government schools across the district will be benefited by the scheme.
Addressing the gathering after inaugurating the scheme at Sri Sathya Sai University for Human Excellence at Navanihal village near Kamalapur, about 35kms from Kalaburagi city, Mr. Kumar praised the Adamya Trust and the Sri Sathya Sai Annapoorna Charitable Trust for introducing this scheme.
The Minister said that several schoolchildren and their parents might need a lesson on the need for having a good breakfast. Many children, particularly those in the primary sections, tend to skip breakfast, and this can lead to complications later on.
Mr. Kumar said that parents have an important role to monitor their children’s diet and train them to eat breakfast.
B.N. Narasimha Murthy, Chancellor of the Sri Sathya Sai University for Human Excellence, said that the breakfast scheme was introduced by the Sathya Sai Annapoorna Trust in 2012.
Over the last seven years, 3 lakh children studying in 15 States and two Union Territories have benefited from the scheme. The breakfast will be prepared at the Adamya Chetana centralised kitchen at Kalaburagi and will be supplied to all the schools. At present 75 schools will be covered under the first phase of the project.
The menu for the breakfast will be vegetable upma, avalakki pongal, avalakki bisibele bath, broken rice upma and plain rava upma.
C. Srinivas, president of the Sri Sathya Sai Health and Education Trust, and Umesh Jadhav, MP, were present.
