Annapoorna Trust’s launch of breakfast programme at Bhongir, Telangana, 28th October, 2017
On October 28th, Annapoorna launched the breakfast programme at Bhongir constituency in the state of Telangana. Annapoorna will be covering over 160 rural schools serving more than 7000 children.
UNIBIC cookies served to children by MLA Sri Paila Sekhar Reddy and the District Collector, Mrs Anita Ramachandra. The teachers and children who had gathered for the program were apprised about Annapoorna initiatives. The teachers offered their gratitude for heeding to their request of providing breakfast to children. The MLA, collector and teachers appreciated the quick response to their request of starting breakfast. Within 5 days of their request, the Annapoorna Breakfast program was launched by providing UNIBIC cookies to all the children.
When one of teachers at Bhongir shared that not all children eat breakfast and come to school, the Annapoorna team sprang into action. A meeting was set up with District Collector, Mrs. Anita Ramachandran and Mr. Pailla Shekar Reddy, MLA, Bhongir Constituency, and Annapoorna Breakfast model was proposed to them. Eager to help the children, the two helped formalize the process and the launch happened.
Annapoorna Breakfast program now reaches out to 85000 children in 1300 schools in 11 states and 2 UT’s. Health screening was done for 6000 children in 95 schools. 15000 villagers have been benefitted by setting up of RO water plants in villages.
