Expansion of Morning Nutrition at Peren, Nagaland, Sep 26, 2024
Peren is a small district in the Indian State of Nagaland. This district is known as the “The Green District of Nagaland” with the highest concentration of Flora and Fauna.
This district in the past was known for its dance music and art. However, lately, it is concerning to hear about the challenges the community faces, particularly with poverty and the need for better economic development.
Nutritional support for children in government schools is crucial for their growth and development.
On September 26, 2024, the Annapoorna Trust, which believes in not just alleviating hunger but also addressing the ‘Hidden Hunger’ in children, expanded the Morning Nutrition program in 2 Blocks that is Peren and Tening areas of Peren district, Nagaland.
The event was graced by the Deputy Commissioner of Peren District and the officials of the Education Department.
A total of 7,200 children will benefit from the Morning Nutrition program. Previously, 2,155 children were served across 72 schools. With this expansion, the program now has a much larger reach in Nagaland.
The program commenced with invoking the blessings of the Almighty on the commencement of the program by Pastor Haiku. Sri Ramdeuna, Senior SDEO of Peren, delivered the welcome address.
This was followed by a speech from Sri Santosh Allath, National Manager of the Sri Sathya Sai Annapoorna Trust. Sri Santosh highlighted the numerous benefits of consuming ‘SaiSure’ Ragi Jawa. He enlightened the children, and all the members present there on the careful formulation of the Nutrition program to ensure all essential nutrients are included and mentioned various districts in India that are being addressed through this initiative.
It was interesting to hear from Deputy Commissioner Haizu Meru who emphasized the importance of regularly consuming this multi-nutrient health drink ‘SaiSure’ stating, “It will support your growth.” He expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Annapoorna Trust for sending the fortified product all the way from Karnataka to help the vulnerable children of Nagaland.
Mireulung, Chairman of the Peren Town Council, highlighted the crucial need for nutrition in the region, saying, “We are truly grateful for this intervention. We look forward to continuing our partnership with the Annapoorna Trust to help make the children of our state healthier and stronger.”
Towards the end a live demonstration showcased the preparation of SaiSure Ragi (millet) multi-nutrient health mix with jaggery, where 10 grams of Ragi was mixed with 10 grams of jaggery and served hot to each child.
The event concluded with a warm vote of thanks from Teisi, SDEO of Tening block, expressing appreciation for everyone’s contributions to this meaningful initiative.
Thus, the launch day ended with all cheer and glee on the children’s faces as they enjoyed the Ragi Jawa. The Annapoorna Trust looks forward to being a part of this beautiful district of Peru where people are so warm and kind with all smiles and cheer.
