IMPACT of providing Grocery Kits to Mid Day Meal Cooks in collaboration with RIST-PFC – Phase I – Tumkur District – Karnataka

Annapoorna Trust in collaboration with ‘Rural India Supporting Trust’ (RIST) and ‘Partnerships For Change’ (PFC) has been reaching out to support GOVT MID DAY MEAL (MDM) COOKS.

 

As a part of this relief programme during Phase-I of the project, 1740 MDM cooks in Tumkur district of Karnataka state received 1 Month dry ration kits. Areas covered are Pavagada, Madhugiri & Koratagere taluk. Remaining 865 MDM cooks of Sira taluk would be covered in Phase II of implementation.

 

Second wave of covid has affected people of all walks of life. The pandemic has affected all of us irrespective of age, occupation, and geography. Several common people are out of their jobs and are struggling to sustain themselves. The suffering is immense and there is a need for assistance and support on various fronts. Annapoorna trust has identified the mid-day meal cooks as one of them who definitely need assistance.

Initial launch took place at Pavagada on 09th June in the presence of Sri. Japananda Swamiji – Ramakrishna Sevashrama, Sri. Venkataramanappa – MLA of Pavagada taluk, Sri. Hanumant Rayappa – Assistant Director of Akshara Dasoha, Sri. Kiran B P – Regional manager, Annapoorna Trust Karnataka, Municipal Chairman & other dignitaries.

 

 

 

Speaking on the occasion, Sri. Japananda Swamiji stated that milk was initially introduced to school children with the efforts of Sri Suresh Kumar – Education minister, Karnataka & our taluk MLA Sri. Venkataramanappa. Covid-19 pandemic had temporarily halted the morning nutrition, mid-day meals and hence, pushed the cooks into inactivity. He emphasized that in spite of the schools being closed, the cooks weren’t forgotten by NGOs. Annapoorna trust in collaboration with ‘Rural India Supporting Trust’ (RIST) and ‘Partnerships For Change’ (PFC) have come forward to support the all MDM cooks across Tumkur district.

 

Local MLA Sri. Venkataramanappa also spoke at this event highlighting the importance of vaccination and wearing masks to the masses. He stressed on the point that since teachers and cooks take care of children, it is mandatory for them to get vaccinated first & set an example. This would benefit when covid norms are relaxed & children start attending the school.

In Madhugiri, distribution took place on 11th June in the presence of Sri. Japananda Swamiji – Ramakrishna Sevashrama, Sri. M V Veerabhadraiah – MLA, Sri. Kiran B P – Regional manager, Karnataka Annapoorna Trust

Eventually in Kortagere, similar event took place on 16th June in the presence of Sri. Japananda Swamiji – Ramakrishna Sevashrama, Dr. G. Parameshwara – MLA of Koratagere & former Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka, Sri. Rajiv R – Regional manager, Karnataka Annapoorna Trust.

Each kit consists of 10kg of rice, 2kg of wheat flour, 1 kg of toor dal, 1kg channa dal, 1 litre cooking oil, 2kg of sugar, 1kg of salt, vermicelli, chilli powder, jeera, mustard and turmeric.
