Narayana Health and Annapoorna Trust: A Partnership Nourishing Young Futures
A Partnership Built Around a Child’s Morning
A nutritious start to the day can make a meaningful difference to a child’s school experience. For children who arrive at school without breakfast, access to morning nutrition offers an opportunity to begin the day with nourishment and energy.
Recognising the importance of child nutrition, Sri Sathya Sai Annapoorna Trust and Narayana Health came together in 2022 to support government-school children in Bengaluru through the Morning Nutrition Programme.
What began as an initiative benefiting 360 children across four government schools gradually expanded to reach more students and schools. Through continued collaboration, the programme has grown into a sustained effort to support children’s nutrition and educational journey.
The partnership reflects a shared understanding that supporting children requires collective participation from organisations, schools, teachers and communities.
2022: The Beginning in Rural Bengaluru
The partnership was formally launched on 28 July 2022 at a government school in Ramohalli, in the Kengeri area of Bengaluru.
The initial programme covered four government schools in Ramohalli, Kethohalli, Subramanya Palya and Chikkeluru, benefiting 360 children.
Narayana Health’s CSR team partnered with Annapoorna Trust to support the initiative, recognising the importance of providing children with nutrition before their school day began.
The programme also built upon Annapoorna Trust’s earlier experience in Doddabele, where its morning nutrition initiative began in 2012.
The initial phase established a foundation for future expansion, demonstrating how a partnership between a healthcare organisation and a community-service organisation could help address children’s nutritional needs.
2023: Expanding to 1,000 Children
The programme expanded during 2023 as nearby schools expressed interest in joining the initiative.
By July 2023, morning nutrition was being provided to 1,000 students across 12 schools in the Kengeri area.
The official restart of the programme took place on 25 July 2023, following the commencement of morning nutrition at the schools earlier that month.
Children received cooked breakfasts, including upma, avalakki, puliyogare and lemon rice.
This expansion represented an important step in the partnership, increasing its reach from 360 children in the initial four schools to 1,000 students across 12 schools.
2024: Continuing the Commitment
On 29 July 2024, the Morning Nutrition Programme was officially relaunched for its third year in partnership with Narayana Health at GLPS Yelachaguppe Rampura in Kengeri.
By this stage, the initiative had completed two years of supporting 1,000 children across 12 schools.
The continuation of the programme demonstrated the importance of sustained support rather than one-time interventions. Regular access to morning nutrition helped make breakfast part of the school-day routine for participating children.
The collaboration also reflected how corporate social responsibility initiatives can work alongside community programmes to address an essential need among school-going children.
2025: The Fourth Year and Further Expansion
In July 2025, the partnership entered its fourth year with the launch of the Morning Nutrition Programme at Kithiganahalli Government School in Bengaluru.
The initiative provided daily cooked breakfast to 1,162 students.
The launch, held on 31 July 2025, brought together representatives from Narayana Health, Annapoorna Trust and the school community.
This development demonstrated the continued growth of the partnership and its commitment to ensuring that children receive nutrition at the beginning of their school day.
The programme continued to connect nutrition with education, recognising that children’s well-being is an important part of their overall school experience.
2026: Beginning the Fifth Year of Partnership
The partnership entered its fifth year in August 2026, marking another milestone in the collaboration between Narayana Health and Annapoorna Trust.
The latest phase covers eight government schools and 1,185 students in Bengaluru, with freshly cooked breakfast provided five days a week.
The inaugural function was held on 11 August 2026 at Karnataka Public School, Sarakki, Bengaluru. Representatives from Narayana Health, Annapoorna Trust, the school and the School Development Monitoring Committee attended the event.
The gathering highlighted the importance of regular breakfast, food conservation and creating an environment in which children can participate actively in school.
The partnership’s continued expansion reflects a shared commitment to supporting children’s nutritional needs through sustained collaboration.
The Impact of a Sustained Partnership
Since 2022, the partnership between Narayana Health and Annapoorna Trust has expanded its morning nutrition programme from 360 children across 4 schools to 1,185 students across 8 government schools in Bengaluru in 2026, reflecting its continued commitment to child nutrition.
Looking Ahead
The journey from the initial programme in 2022 to the fifth year of partnership in 2026 shows how sustained collaboration can extend support to more schoolchildren.
Narayana Health and Annapoorna Trust continue to work towards a shared objective: helping children access morning nutrition so they can begin their school day nourished and ready to learn.
The partnership also illustrates the importance of cooperation between corporate partners, schools and community organisations in addressing children’s needs.
