IMPACT of providing Grocery Kits to 335 daily wage workers in collaboration with GAIN Foundation – Dharmapuri, Karur & Thiruvallur – Tamil Nadu State

Nutrition support for 2000 vulnerable daily wage workers by Annapoorna Trust in collaboration with The Global Alliance For Improved Nutrition (GAIN) Foundation – Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Telangana & Bihar States.

 

With a vision and motto, “Let no child go to school hungry ever”, Annapoorna Breakfast Programme provides healthy, nutritious meals to more than 500,000 children in 6000+ schools across 18 states and 3 union territories in India.

 

 

The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) is a Swiss-based foundation launched at the United Nations in 2002 to face malnutrition. They work with government and collaborate with like-minded institutions to provide food and nutrition to the needy and especially the vulnerable.

On 27th October 2021, distribution took place in the Central kitchen in Nemilicheey, Thiruvallur District, in the presence of Sri. Dhanraj Sivaprakasam – Trustee, Dani Rasa Foundation, Smt. Indu Priya – Central kitchen in charge, Sri. Chokkalingam – Annapoorna Tamil Nadu in charge, Sri. Pushkar Raghavan – CSR Head, Annapoorna Tamil Nadu Wing. 20 beneficiaries who were provided with the grocery kits were the daily wage workers, cooks, helpers etc.

 

Likewise, on 29th October 2021, a total of 90 kits were distributed to vulnerable food system families who have been affected due to the COVID Pandemic that includes farmers, labourers, school staff and helpers. Event was organized in Rakkampatty village, Kulithalai constituency of Karur district in the presence of Sri. Manickam R – MLA of Kulithalai, Sri. Justin – School Headmaster, Smt. Muthu Lakshmi – Teacher, Kudalur panchayat chief and members, Sri. Rajarajan & Sri. Anguraj – Seed foundation volunteers, Sri. Sathyanarayana – Annapoorna Trustee, Sri. Santhosh Allath – Annapoorna National Co-Ordinator, Sri. Saravanan – Annapoorna Krishnagiri District In charge, and Sri. Chandru – a volunteer who also does many social service activities under the banner of Vidhagal Trust. The guests assembled were appreciative about ration kit distribution done during the COVID pandemic which would help many needy vulnerable people immensely.

 

 

One of the ladies expressed her gratitude by saying, “Annapoorna Trust has been doing the required help for the school children. On behalf of our school, we thank these charitable institutions, GAIN & Annapoorna for the assistance rendered to us.”

 

 “I thank Sri Sathya Sai Annapoorna Trust & GAIN foundation for serving the elementary school children of Rakkampatty village, Karur district during this corona pandemic. During these testing times parents have faced challenges. Hence, we specially thank Annapoorna Trust & GAIN foundation for providing help in these critical times by providing groceries in many districts of Tamil Nadu,” said another beneficiary.

 

Another lady spoke, “On behalf of this Rakkampatty village I express my hearty thanks to Sri Sathya Sai Annapoorna Trust. I thank them for providing food provisions to children and parents. I thank the teachers also on this occasion.”

 

A total of 225 dry ration kits were distributed to vulnerable food system families in Dharmapuri district on 01th Nov 2021. People who actively participated in distribution were Sri. Mahendran – Vanishwar Temple Trustee, Harur, Sri. Kasi – Farmer Association Head – Harur, Sri. Nagaraj – District coordinator – Annapoorna Trust – Dharmapuri and Sri. Saravanan – Annapoorna – Krishnagiri

It is to be noted, more than 70% of the beneficiaries were women in all the three locations of Thiruvallur, Karur & Dharmapuri.

 

Each kit consists of 5kg Rice, 1ltr Gold winner refined oil(fortified), 5kg Ashirwad Atta(fortified), 1ltr Tata salt(fortified), 2 kg Toor dal, 1kg Urad dal, and 1kg Chana dal.
