IMPACT of providing Grocery Kits to 500 daily wage workers in collaboration with GAIN Foundation– Nagar Kurnool and Medchal – Telangana State

Nutrition support for 2000 vulnerable daily wage workers by Annapoorna Trust in collaboration with The Global Alliance For Improved Nutrition (GAIN) Foundation– Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Telangana & Bihar States.

 

The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) is a Swiss-based foundation launched at the United Nations in 2002 to tackle the human suffering caused by malnutrition. Working with governments, businesses, and civil society, they aim to transform food systems so that they deliver more nutritious foods for all people, especially the most vulnerable. In India, the first reported case of Covid-19 was confirmed on 30 January 2020. But in-spite of taking measures to avoid the spike of COVID cases, second wave during April 2021 was a severe blow. Nevertheless, even if things are coming back to normal currently, it might take a good amount of time for many people overcome the trauma and losses faced due to pandemic. Annapoorna Trust in collaboration with The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) have come forward to assist the vulnerable population.

Out of total of 500 beneficiaries, 287 were women folk and 213 members were men.

On 29 Oct 2021, the event of grocery kits distribution took place in Kalavakurthy mandal of Nagar Kurnool district in the presence of Sri Jaipal Yadav – MLA Kalavakurthy, Dr Damodar Reddy – Shishumandir chairman, Sri Chenna Kishen Reddy – Local leader, municipal chairman, Sri Ramamurthy & Sri Pradeep – Annapoorna Telangana co-ordinators.

The beneficiaries expressed their happiness in the event.

 

One of the teachers said, “I am very thankful to Sri Sathya Sai Annapoorna Trust and GAIN foundation. I am a private teacher at Sri Saraswathi Sishu Mandir School. From the last 2 years because of the corona pandemic, all schools are shut down. With no employment in hand, we faced a lot of financial problems. We are a total of 30 teachers in our school. On behalf of all of us, we express our gratitude to Sri Sathya Sai Annapoorna Trust & GAIN foundation for their kind helping nature during this pandemic situation.”

 

 

Teacher Pavani expressed her gratitude by saying, “We are very much thankful for Sathya Sai Trust & GAIN foundation for having given dry ration kit during this COVID pandemic at a time when we are not getting salaries since many months. Even if the schools are reopened now, students are not in a situation to pay the fee to school administration on time. We would be very delighted if grocery kits are being provided to other needy people as well.”

 

Two of the drivers said, “I work as a driver in the school. I am very much thankful to Sri Sathya Sai Annapoorna Trust & GAIN foundation for their assistance in this situation.” “Thank you for your free food services in this situation, we will pray to Sathya Sai Baba before taking our food. Thank you again for your help.”

 

 

A lady shared her heartfelt thanks by saying, “We are very happy to receive the grocery kit from Sri Sathya Sai Annapoorna Trust & GAIN foundation and will never forget this support given in a time of need.”

On 30 Oct & also 31 Oct 2021, another event of distribution took place in Safilguda & Moulali of Malkajgiri constituency in the presence of Sri Venu Gopal Rao – Lions club district governor and Sri Manohar – Lions Club regional member. Sri Ramamurthy & Sri Pradeep – Annapoorna Telangana co-ordinators made sure distribution took place smoothly of all the beneficiaries without any untoward incidents. Beneficiaries were farmers, daily wage labourers, school staff and helpers.

 

Beneficiaries expressed their joy of receiving the dry ration kit as below:

 

 “We are feeling very happy about this Sri Sathya Sai Annapoorna Trust’s food service. This type of service will be very helpful. There are so many poor people like us in this society who are not able to get their food to eat in this pandemic situation. We need this Trust’s food service for all the poor people.”

 

“Today, we are feeling very happy because of Sri Sathya Sai Annapoorna Trust & GAIN foundations helping nature. Primary reason is, we are surviving with menial jobs and meagre salaries. With this food distribution service, we are able to manage well for 1-2 months. So, if you provide this type of food distribution service to more families like us, we will feel very happy. Thank you.”

One of the beneficiaries also expressed, “I am Mohammed Hasina. I am feeling very happy to get this grocery service from Sri Sathya Sai Annapoorna Trust and GAIN foundation. It will be helpful for our entire family for 2-3 days. I am very much thankful to them.”

 

Another beneficiary said, “I heard a lot about this Sri Sathya Sai Annapoorna Trust. They are serving morning breakfast for about 5 lakh children. It’s not an easy thing but this trust is doing good. We have also received assistance from this trust. We are expecting this help to be given to all the needy people who are struggling with food in this pandemic situation. In this COVID pandemic, so many people have died because of lack of food. We feel like this is  God’s gift to us through Sri Sathya Sai Annapoorna Trust & GAIN foundation. We thank for your kind and helping nature. Thank you.”

Each kit consists of 5kg Rice, 1ltr Freedom Sunflower refined oil(fortified), 5kg Ashirwad Atta(fortified), 1ltr Tata salt(fortified), 2 kg Toor dal, 1kg Urad dal, and 1kg Chana dal.
