ABOUT US

The Sri Sathya Sai Annapoorna Trust is a charitable trust headquartered in Muddenahalli, Chikkaballapur District of Karnataka, India. The Trust, set up in November 2015, primarily strives to feed nutritious, well-balanced breakfast to all school-going children in rural India and disadvantaged sections of the society. It also seeks to enable holistic development of children by actively engaging with the school authorities and helping them integrate an ethos of academic as well as human excellence.

The Trust also endeavours to enable rural uplift and transformation by aligning its activities along the four pillars of Vidya (Educare), Vaidya (Healthcare), Vaari (Water) and Vidyuth (Clean Energy), leading to the development of India’s villages as ideal and sustainable.

At Annapoorna, we have always strived to nurture school-going children in rural India and the needy sections of the society, while catering to children’s academic, health, nutritional and emotional needs. The Annapoorna Breakfast Programme focuses on providing daily breakfast to needy school going children, while working towards the objective: “Let no child go to school hungry ever!”

Annapoorna started operations in July 2012 by a few volunteers, and as the activities increased in scale and complexity, it has now blossomed into a platform for more than 400 volunteers to serve, besides thousands of teachers at the schools, who offer their services and collaborate with Annapoorna. Thanks to many caring individuals, like-minded institutional partners and government servants who have constantly supported this noble initiative, Annapoorna now serves nutritious breakfast – free of cost – to over 1,10,000 (One Lakh Ten Thousand) school-going children at 1,500+ centers located across 16 states! Annapoorna works closely with over 800 local vendors in a decentralized model, with customized menu to suit the regional palate, and standardized menu within a region to ensure quality. Apart from the breakfast programme, Annapoorna is also engaged in setting up RO drinking water plants, constructing toilet at village schools and conducting health screening of children.

The Annapoorna volunteers come from various walks of professional life, and are engaged in this service purely out of compassion for the children and a desire to serve our communities. The values we cherish are: Love, humility, compassion, commitment and teamwork. We continue to experience excellent reception from the schools, and have also seen positive impact in terms of increased attendance, better health, and improved academic performance by the children. Teachers say, the children are now arriving to schools well before time!

OUR INSPIRATION

Sri Sathya Sai Baba was a spiritual master, leader and possibly the greatest philanthropist to walk on earth. He dedicated His entire life to the emancipation of the poor and the uplift of humanity, transcending man-made barriers and divisions.

It was the year 2000, when Baba spoke publicly about how pained He was when He read a newspaper article about an impoverished mother who, driven by hunger and desperation, poisoned her children and herself. He then took it upon Himself to feed the villagers in and around Puttaparthi, His hometown. Thus began the Grama Seva movement, a mission to reach out to the countless village-folk, with food and clothes, right at their doorsteps.

It is now our earnest desire to continue this legacy of Bhagawan’s love and message through our work.

Love All, Serve All and Help Ever, Hurt Never – these simple yet profound teachings of Sri Sathya Sai Baba are our guiding light, inspiration and standard. How much love are we putting in each step of the way? Are we serving every single child from the goodness of our heart? Are we grateful for the opportunity to serve? These are questions we ask of ourselves every moment and strive to answer.

My Life is My Message

-Baba would often say.  It is our constant prayer that His message should now shine forth through our work.

OUR GROWTH STORY

In July 2012, a handful of us came together and started the breakfast programme. It was a humble beginning. We started serving breakfast at a school in Doddabele, near Bangalore, to about 50 children every morning. Little did we know that through a simple act of kindness, we would be heralding the onset of a nutrition movement that would spread throughout the country and across the globe. Inspired by the work, more hands volunteered, more schools were adopted and thousands of children now attend school on a full stomach!

We now serve more than 1,10,000 children every day and are a strong team of 5,000+ volunteers with a presence in 1,500+ schools in 16 Indian states & 1 Union Territory.

MEET OUR TEAM

We are our volunteers! With a committed base of 5,000+ volunteers, our volunteers are our life force. Comprising working professionals, homemakers, entrepreneurs, teachers, doctors and retired professionals, they bring in the much-needed diversity and experience to our work.

OUR BOARD OF TRUSTEES

The Trust comprises seven trustees and is currently headed by Chairman, Sri Narasimhachari Sampath. Sri Sampath is a retired Indian Government official from the Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research (IGCAR) and is now fully involved in running the everyday affairs of the Annapoorna Trust.

The trustees are a disparate mix of corporate professionals, doctors and entrepreneurs and bring to the table a vast body of knowledge and experience. They are involved in planning, strategy and execution of the breakfast program and also coordinate volunteer engagement and allocation. They meet once in a month to discuss the progress of work and other Trust-related activities.

OUR VOLUNTEERS

We are our volunteers. And we are because of our volunteers. They are our biggest strength and support. It is because of their dedication, enthusiasm and initiative that we have grown to embrace so many children today.
